Wrestlers and Skin Disease
Common skin diseases in wrestlers
- Ring worm (caused by a fungus)
- Herpes Gladitorium (caused by the HSV-1 virus)
- Impetigo (caused by bacteria)
- Staph infection (caused by a bacteria)
What to look for:
- Any unusual lesion on the skin
What can I do to keep myself disease free?
- Wear only freshly laundered clothes to practice
- Shower immediately following practice using liquid soap (no bar soap)
- Dry off with a freshly laundered towel and do not share towels
- Remove and launder used workout clothes from gym bags immediately upon returning home
What do I do if I suspect I have a skin disease?
- Report your concern to your coach immediately! Your coaches need to track these diseases.
- Seek the treatment of a doctor immediately. Each of these diseases has a different treatment
